The internet is an amazing tool to find free software tools for instructors to use for designing, developing and delivering their courses. 321 Free Tools for Teachers is one such collection of free tools on the internet. They have links to over 18 different categories of tools ranging from surveys, to sticky notes to videos. I have checked out several of the tools and while I am impressed with the functionality and the fact that they are free I can't help but wonder if I will be able to use them....
I say this as I work as a trainer and instructional designer for a large corporate organization where the materials that I develop generally contain confidential information. Given that most of these tools store information on "the cloud" and not within the confines of my employers firewall I can't help but think that using these tools would be in breach of the organization's corporate data security policy. Until these tools have the option for storing data within the confines of my organization's firewalls I think they will unfortunately remain beyond my reach.
